Why people convert AMF to USDZ

A niche conversion with a real use: putting a printable part into augmented reality on an iPhone or iPad, at true size, without an app.

AMF is a good starting point for it, because the format states its unit. USD records metersPerUnit and this conversion sets it from what the AMF declared, so the model appears in the room at the size it will actually print. Most routes into USDZ have to assume that.

The stage is written as text USDA inside a stored, 64-byte-aligned archive, which is what AR Quick Look needs and what a general purpose zip tool will get wrong. Colour comes across; AMF's constellations and graded materials do not.
