Why people convert VRML to USDZ

It is a strange trip and it works. Colour comes through, which makes the AR view worth looking at rather than a grey shell, and the stage is written as text USDA in the stored, aligned archive AR Quick Look requires.
Scale is the thing to watch and VRML makes it harder than most. The specification fixes the unit as the metre but the file never states it, so this site reads metres and labels the unit assumed. Exporters that wrote millimetre-magnitude numbers will produce a model a thousand times too big in the room. If that happens, the fault is upstream in whatever wrote the VRML.
What you get
You get a binary USDZ file containing the same triangles the VRML file described. No geometry is added, removed or approximated: mesh-to-mesh conversion is a change of container, and this site's tests check that the triangle count comes out identical.

What to check afterwards
- VRML carries no unit. The numbers in the file are just numbers, so the conversion assumes metres. Check the overall dimensions of the result before you commit to machining or printing it. A file exported from a package set to inches will be 25.4 times out.

This pair loses very little. USDZ carries what VRML carries, so the main reason to choose a different target is what the receiving software accepts.
