Why people convert IGES to USDZ
An unusual request with one very specific use: showing a legacy surface part in augmented reality on an iPhone or iPad, at true size, to somebody who is not going to install CAD software.
It works, and the unit handling is better than most routes into USDZ, because IGES states its unit in the Global section instead of leaving it to be assumed. The geometry is converted into USD's metres from whatever the file declared.
Do not expect a solid. IGES surfaces tessellate into a mesh that may well be open, and AR Quick Look will happily display a shell with holes in it without mentioning them. That is fine for showing shape and proportion, which is what this format is for.
What you get
You get a binary USDZ file containing triangles. The reader tessellates supported surfaces or uses saved render meshes where required by the source format. Inspect curved faces at the intended output size. The triangle count depends on the model and the reader's meshing settings.

What to check afterwards
- IGES declares its unit in the file. Check the output dimensions in the receiving application, especially when its import settings can override the unit.
- Curves become facets. IGES stores exact surfaces, so a hole is a cylinder with a radius. USDZ stores triangles, so that cylinder becomes a many-sided prism. Look at curved faces in the result at the size you intend to make the part.
If you need something this conversion cannot give you
If you need editable CAD geometry, don't convert at all. Open the IGES file directly in FreeCAD, Fusion, Onshape or SolidWorks. Every mesh format destroys the exact surfaces, and no later conversion brings them back.

This site reads IGES but does not write it. For the reverse conversion, use an application that can export IGES.
