Why people convert COLLADA to 3MF
Printing something that came out of SketchUp, which is the most common journey a .dae ever makes.
COLLADA declares its unit as a scale factor in the <asset> block and 3MF records a unit in the file, so the physical size is carried across explicitly at both ends. Colour survives too, and separate nodes stay separate objects on the build plate.
The up-axis is handled on the way in. COLLADA states whether it is Y-up or Z-up, and a model that would otherwise arrive lying on its side is rotated once on import. Faces with more than three sides are triangulated, so the triangle count will exceed the face count in the source, which is normal and not a sign anything went wrong.

You get a binary 3MF file containing the same triangles the COLLADA file described. No geometry is added, removed or approximated: mesh-to-mesh conversion is a change of container, and this site's tests check that the triangle count comes out identical.
