Why send a drawing as a PDF
Because everyone can open one. A DXF needs CAD software or a cutter's own program, and a PDF opens on any phone, any laptop, in any browser, without the recipient installing anything or asking you what a DXF is.
That makes it the right format for a quote, an approval, a shop drawing you want signed off, or a template someone will print and check against the real part. It is the wrong format for cutting: a machine wants the DXF.
The page is the drawing
There is no A4 here, and no scaling to fit. The page is sized from the drawing's own bounds, so a 100 by 60 mm plate produces a 100 by 60 mm page. Print it at 100 percent and you can lay the part on top of it.
That is the whole reason to convert here rather than print to PDF from a viewer, which usually fits the drawing to a paper size and quietly changes the scale.
What comes through
Every line and every arc, as vector paths rather than a picture of them, so the file stays sharp at any zoom and a measuring tool in a PDF reader gives real numbers.
Layers become optional content groups, which is what a PDF reader calls layers. Open the layers panel and you can switch each one on and off, and a layer that was hidden in the drawing arrives switched off rather than missing.
What it drops
Colours, line weights and plot styles: every path is a thin black stroke. Text, dimensions, hatches and leaders never made it past the reader, so they are not here either, and a drawing that contains them is refused rather than exported with pieces missing.
The drawing must declare a unit. Without one there is no physical size to make a page from, so open it in the DXF workspace first, assign the unit, and export from there.
Limits
Binary DXF is not read; save a text DXF first. Files above 10 MiB or 20,000 primitives are refused, and so is a drawing with entities this reader cannot carry.
