3DS viewer

Open a .3ds file and see it, with its size, triangle count and mesh checks. 3DS stores no unit, so the size assumes millimetres. It renders in this tab.

Your file never leaves your browser. STEP, IGES and BREP fetch the OpenCASCADE kernel (2.3 MB over the wire); 3DM fetches rhino3dm (2.5 MB before compression); every mesh and scene format fetches neither. Nothing downloads until you pick a file.what we bundle ↗

Why a 3DS model arrives split or rounded

3DS caps each mesh at 65,536 vertices and stores coordinates as 32-bit floats. A model finer than that cap was split into pieces when it was exported, and fine detail arrives rounded. Neither is something this viewer can undo, and both are reported rather than left for you to notice later.

The format carries no unit, so the dimensions assume millimetres. 3DS predates most of the conventions that later formats settled, and a file's coordinates can mean almost anything, so check a known measurement.

Damaged chunks are skipped rather than failing the whole read, which means geometry can be missing without an error. If part of the model is absent, check the truncation warning first. The 3DS guide covers the format's age and limits.
